A group of carolers showed up to sing outside of Target, but brought a surprise in the form of t-shirts bearing anti-gay slogans.

Christmas carolers wearing shirts advertising anti-gay principles drew bespectacled looks from store patrons as they sang outside of a Sacramento Target store, officials said Saturday.

Officials said that the carolers said that they were peacefully protesting a new California law that prohibits discriminating against gays in school curriculum.

The store put out a no-loitering sign and called the police, but officials said the carolers were allowed to stay, as they hadn't broken any laws.

After a period of relative safety, recent events have shown a sudden growth of intolerance towards members of minority communities, particularly the LGBT community.   The last few years have seen a steady honing of homophobic and racist messages emanating from a growing number of radical groups.  The result of this intolerance was the death of Satendar Singh, a young man brutally killed during the Independence Day Holiday in a suspected hate crime.

The years of safety we enjoyed allowed our community resources to be forgotten and networks to atrophy.   Today we must rebuild, remember, and not tolerate a single person being harmed simply because of any particular group they may belong to.

12 PM – 3 PM

Dissemination of information: Discovery of community resources, defining common goals, and statements from individuals and organizations responding to the recent escalation in hate crimes.  Organizations will present on various topics, opinions, and offer resources we have for the greater community to share.

Hello Everyone.  I know there are a lot of you who are interested in playing softball this spring.
There is currently one GLBT team who will be playing in a co-ed league city league on Wednesday nights beginning March 18th.  There certainly seems to be enough interest to have one or two additional teams!  Our first step, however, is to find people to volunteer to be a team captain.  If you might be interested in being a team captain, that would be a helpful first step!  I am definitely happy to help you with all of that.

Eventually we hope to have an all-GLBT league, however, this is sort of the first step in heading in that direction.

For complete information contact the Sacramento Sports Complex (Watt & I-80) at 277-6087.  They will mail you a registration packet.

Registration began February 5th and closes March 2nd.  First come, first serve.  Cost is $465 per team before March 6 and $490 after March 6th.

Minimum of 8 games plus playoffs if your team qualifies.

Let me know if you have any additional questions and I'll try and answer then as best I can.

Thank you!

Mark Jacobson

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to followup on my previously email to let you know the approximate cost per person for the spring co-ed softball league would be about $40.  We hope to hear from you as we are forming our second team!

Thanks.

Local Sister does well

Hi all,
My name is Sister Mary Juanita High of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. I recently became Fully Professed and now would like to offer my services to all my queer family in my hometown of Sacramento.

If you are not familiar with the Sisters and what we do, please check us out at www.thesisters.org. You can find my bio online there as well as info about our work. While I currently live in Oakland, I would be more than happy to lend whatever support I can to all queer non-profits
in the greater Sacramento area. Sisters do alot of things from working as gatekeepers at events by collecting donations to performing blessings and other rituals for those in need. Feel free to call on me as you would any other nun...just remember...I'm a queer nun. So I
expect some funny bizness.

Many Blessings to you all!

Brokeback Mountain movie posterThe movie Brokeback Mountain sure is getting a lot of press but isn't expected to open in this cow town until Jan 6, 2005.

Update.  Brokeback Mountain is only showing on 69 screens in the whole country.  King Kong and other releases are showing on thousands of screens.  What's up with that?  Why is this movie not in wider release?  It has major actors, a top director, is winning awards and nominations and could be a top money maker.  Is it because it shows gays as regular normal acceptable people?  Sounds like one of those "vast conspiracies" I keep hearing about.

Even though it was only on 69 screens it came as #8 money maker.  movies.yahoo.com/mv/boxoffice/weekend/

"I think you should also mention about the gay channel on Sirius Satellite Radio. It's called "Out-Q" and it's on channel 106.
Their website is: www.siriusoutq.com
One reason it's worth mentioning is because Sacramento is one of the few cities with a ground signal transmitter for Sirius radios, making reception much easier and better."
